IWD // Letter from the Founder

This International Women’s Day, I want to express gratitude for all the women that have supported Woodlot on our journey and continue to do so in so many ways.  When I look back on all the opportunities we’ve been given, the connections we’ve made, and the experiences we’ve had for the most part, a woman has been involved.

To the first woman who asked if she could take photographs of our products, which lead to meeting our first retailer, who also happened to be a woman, and to all the amazing creative professionals and female-owned businesses we’ve worked with since, to every female member of our team, and to all the beautiful and diverse women who are using our products daily, sharing them on social media, and talking about us with friends and family — thank you.  I’m forever grateful for the power, magic, and light that each of you have brought to this company.

IWD is a day to celebrate how far we’ve come, but it is also an important day to acknowledge how far we have left to go to create more equal and equitable opportunities for women all around the world. This month we’re honoured to be supporting One Girl Can in their mission to rebuild Ushirika School in the Kibera Slum in Nairobi by donating 20% of all proceeds from Woodlot Skincare in the month of March to help them raise their goal of $5,000. One Girl Can is breaking the cycle of poverty and impacting gender equality through education and mentorship. Using a holistic model that empowers a girl from the time she leaves primary school until the day she gains meaningful employment, the organization is built upon three pillars - We Build. We Educate. We Mentor.

This IWD, I invite you to pour yourself your favourite drink and celebrate all the women that inspire you, but especially yourself. You’re doing a great job. We’re all in this together.
